Those metrics matter, but they often miss the lived reality of a place. A district can post impressive density numbers and still function poorly if daily needs remain scattered, streets feel unsafe, and essential services sit beyond a practical walk.

A more useful question for the next generation of city planning is simple: how long does it take a resident to reach the places that structure ordinary life? Grocery stores, schools, transit, parks, health care, and small workspaces define the real performance of urban form. In that sense, walk time is not a soft lifestyle metric.
